Libraries' Responses to Survey Results:
Improved Photocopy Services

At the time the User Survey was carried out in Spring 1996, a team of Libraries staff members already had begun to plan for an improved program of copy services. Users' critical responses to the Survey's questions regarding copy services intensified the team's efforts to design a program that would feature improved copy equipment and maintenance service and a more favorable pricing structure for all users, particularly those who use the Libraries' copy services most heavily.

The Libraries team collaborated with a team from UCSD Copier Services in the design of such a program, which was unveiled to library users on January 1, 1997, the day after the Libraries' contract with the previous copy vendor ended. All new photocopiers, laser printers, microform reader-printers, card dispenser-regenerator machines and a large format map copier were installed in the campus libraries. While the transition period at the end of the previous vendor's contract was a difficult period for all library users and staff, comments received from library users regarding the new copy equipment and maintenance services in place since January 1 have been very positive.

Under the new program, everyone involved in planning, oversight and delivery of copy services in the UCSD Libraries is a UCSD employee; thus we share a common primary mission of service to the campus community and a secondary mission of service to library users from the communities beyond the campus.
