Librarians in the Mandeville Special Collections Library are available to provide instruction on the scope and use of our rare books, manuscripts, and archival collections to UCSD undergraduate and graduate classes. We can offer seminars on the various subject areas of our collections, the use and handling of rare and archival materials, and methods of locating rare books and manuscripts in other repositories. Faculty may reserve the seminar room, which seats 15 students comfortably, for these sessions. The Reference/Instruction Librarian can give presentations in the instructor's classroom if desired. We also provide orientation and reference assistance to individual researchers who wish to use the collections. Instructors are requested to inform Special Collections when their students are required to access items in our collections. Items necessary for repeated class use can be placed on reserve at the Special Collections reference desk. Faculty interested in using Special Collections materials in their classes, or students needing research assistance should contact Lynda C. Claassen at 534-1272 or lclaassen@ucsd.edu. |
