Finding Images in the Slide Collection

Use Roger , the UCSD Library catalog, to search for images.

ARTIST Use to search for creator names; artist's, playwrights, set and costume designers, composers, film directors, as well as corporate names; museums, artists' groups, theaters.
When looking for works by people, enter last name first:
  • Beuys, Joseph                        160 records
  • Meierkhold, V. E                      254 records
  • Walsh, Raoul                             30 records 
When searching corporate names use direct order:
  • British Museum                       919 records
  • Guerrilla Girls                             17 records
  • Babb, Cook & Willard                  2 records 
If in doubt, try KEYWORD.
 TITLE Use title if you know the exact name of a work.
  • Bride Stripped Bare by her Bachelors, Even
If a title s a very common term try using the ARTIST/TITLE  search.
ARTIST/TITLE Use to limit to a specific work by a creator: 
  •   ARTIST: Picasso                                                                                         1,734 records
  •   ARTIST: Picasso and TITLE: The Dream and Lie of Franco                    15 records
KEYWORD KEYWORD searches creator, title, note and subject fields. KEYWORD is an excellent choice for searching if you have partial information about an artwork. Slide titles and note fields are full of desriptive information.
  • Rome                                                                        7,830 records
  • Rome and mural painting                                        702 records
  • Rome and mural painting and Augustus                30 records
To find other like images choose the SLIDE SUBJECT line(s) in a relevant citation to identify the subject heading(s) to use for your topic. 
SLIDE SUBJECT Search terms or names:
  • Horses
  • Catherine, of Alexandria, Saint
  • Drawing
  • Punk Culture
  • Monroe, Marilyn
Subject searches also allow browsing under major mediums; painting, architecture, film, photography, gardens, sculpture etc., which are subdivided by country or culture and date. 
  •  Painting  France  10th C. A.D.
  •  Mosaics  Assyria    4th C. B.C.
Subject words are a controlled vocabulary. Browse collection by using slide mediums
CALL NUMBER Searches by call number are currently not available for slide records.
