Circulation Policy

Slide Borrowing Privileges

Art and Architecture Library (AAL) slides are instructional tools that circulate to current UCSD faculty, students, and staff only. Users must present a valid UCSD Library card and register for slide circulation privileges with the AAL staff. Only patrons eligible to check out slides may browse the collection.

Slides may not be used to generate income or profit and may not be duplicated. All circulating slides are subject to overdue fines and replacement costs. All circulating slides are subject to recall.

Slide Recalls
Users have the option to recall slides currently checked out to other users. Since the primary service goal of the AAL is to make slides available for the support of classroom teaching, users must expect on occasion to be asked to return slides for the use of other patrons.

In accordance with the UCSD Library-wide policy, all check-outs are kept strictly confidential. Therefore, patrons requiring recalls must bring their requests to AAL staff. AAL staff will then initiate the recall while maintaining the confidentiality of both patrons. The requestor will be notified, either by phone or email, when a slide is requested or when a slide is successfully recalled. However, the AAL cannot guarantee when a recalled item will be returned.

Failure to return a recalled item by its new due date may result in the temporary suspension of library privileges and issuance of a library bill.

Slide Renewals
If you need to keep slides beyond your check out period, you may renew them. Slides can be renewed using the View Your Own Record option in ROGER, by calling AAL, or in person at the AAL Circulation Desk. Items that are recalled, on hold for another patron, or in fine status cannot be renewed.

Overdue Policy

Mis-use of ID's and Privileges
If a user who is eligible to borrow slides gives borrowed slides to another person who is not eligible, that person shall forfeit their borrowing privileges and will be held financially liable for any loss or damage to the slides borrowed.

Proxy Policy
Permanent UCSD faculty may designate up to three (3) research assistants to check out slides on their behalf when they register for the Slide Library Privilege Card. By designating proxies, the faculty member accepts complete responsibility for all material checked out to their proxies, including overdue fees and replacement costs. Proxy designations are valid for the duration of the current fiscal year, expiring on June 30, but they can be canceled at your request at any time.
