Environmental Monitoring Equipment
The Preservation Department supplies the following types of equipment for monitoring the temperature and humidity of UCSD Libraries open and closed stacks. For questions or assistance with these devices, contact David Jahn.
Taylor Digital Humidiguide
Provides a digital display of current temperature and relative humidity (± 4° F; ± 5% RH).
Measures 5 3/8" x 2 ½". Uses one AAA battery.
ACR Smart Reader 2
A 4 channel temperature and relative humidity electronic datalogger. User-configurable, high quality sensors with calibration certificates (>1° F; ± 4% RH). Can be securely hung using cable & lock. Meaures 4" x 2 ¾". Uses a 3.6 volt lithium battery, 10 year battery life (factory replaceable). Includes TrendReader software for communicating with the datalogger and preparing graphs.
Preservation Environment Monitor
Developed by the Image Permanence Institute, records and displays temperature and relative humidity data (±1° F; ± 2% RH). Also calculates the Preservation Index (PI) and Time Weighted Preservation Index (TWPI). Uses a SRAM card for downloading. Measures 6 ½" x 4". In open stack areas must be wall mounted or have a protective enclosure. Uses four 9 volt lithium batteries and one 9-volt lithium system back-up battery. Includes Climate Notebook software for saving, interpreting and presenting the data.
