Intension vs. Extension

Domain: Linguistics/Epistemology

Canonical Formulation:?

Possible Formulation: Intension (in tenere: to hold; using in-supr-two, thus to hold inside or within) is a term to used to try to express where the referent, or Object, of a mental phenomenon can be found. If the argument that a mental phenomenon has a referent within itself is accepted, then this referent would be the intension of the phenomenon, or that which is held within it. Extension, oppositely, is applicable to the Objects serving as referents in physical phenomena. The extension of such an item is exactly the amount of spatio-temporal nature that they occupy.
