Examples:
philosophy can be broken down to philo- and -sophy,
it's two etymons.
Where philo- stands for "love of" or "fondness for" and -sophy
indicates knowledge or a system of thought. Therefore, we have as a
"definition" of philosohpy something like love of knowledge or love
of a system of thought.
phenomenology broken down, its two etymons are phenomen-
and -ology.
Phenomen- is Greek for appearance, from the word phaino which means
to appear, t
o show, to
come to light. Ology- means "the study of" from the Greek word
"logos" which means word.
Phenomenology therefore means the study of the way things come to
light.
