OCEANIDS is a UCSD organization promoting friendship and services to the UCSD community. OCEANIDS is open to all who are interested in UCSD as well as faculty, staff and active members of campus support groups and their spouses. We sponsor several interest groups and publish a monthly newsletter, BEAR FACTS, with a calendar of current activities.
SERVICES include welcoming Newcomers and foreign visitors to the campus through monthly events. Newcomers' events include picnics and a Garden Wine Party, a December Holiday Party and Whale Watching by Charter Boat.
OCEANIDS provides several awards recognizing scholarship and service.
The Oceanid Service Award is given to a graduating senior from each of the
six UCSD Colleges annually.
The Frieda Urey Fellowship is awarded annually to a graduate student
by OCEANIDS.
The Bertha Lebus Fellowship is awarded every 2 years to a graduate
student.
The Oceanids Memorial Fellowship Fund provided its first fellowship
in August 2005 and plans to award a fellowship every 2 years to a graduate
student.
