Who Are We?
Oceanids is a University of California, San Diego organization and support group promoting friendship and services to the UC San Diego community. Oceanids is open to all who are interested in UC San Diego as well as faculty, staff and active members of campus support groups and their spouses. In particular, we shall:

Welcome and assist newcomers and visitors to the University campus and community

Fund fellowships and undergraduate awards recognizing scholarship and service
-
Sponsor interest groups to promote fellowship and strengthen the academic community
Oceanids service activities include: Undergraduate service awards, graduate fellowships, Friday Cafe, Kitchen & Baby Equipment Exchange and other service projects. The Newcomers group welcomes and assists new members to the UC San Diego community throughout the academic year. For more information on Newcomers, contact Liz Wills, (858) 454-6858.
Our annual events include: Fall Welcome Lunch, Holiday Party, Whale Watching , Desert Camping, Museum Bus Trip, Campus Focus, Theater Fund Raiser and Spring Luncheon, just to mention a few.
Interest Groups are the backbone of our Oceanids organization. They are here to meet the many varied needs of our UC San Diego families. If you are interested in book clubs, day trips, bird watching, practicing your French or German, wine tasting, playing bridge, join us. If you are a University scholar, researcher, staff member, visiting guest of the University or a person interested in being part of a vibrant University community, you are invited to join us. President's Message
Whether you have been journeying or whether you stayed in this beautiful part of the world for the summer break, a warm welcome to you all. I hope that you are rested, relaxed and ready to enjoy what our organization has to offer throughout the year, and eager to contribute new ideas to broaden its spectrum.
Mankind joins hands for many reasons and in many ways, in every country, culture and religion. The members of Oceanids not only join hands with each other, we also join hands with many non-members in our capacity as a support group of UC San Diego. We participate in a variety of activities, provide scholarships and special awards, and we serve where service is needed.
So, here I am, with an exceptionally talented and experienced Board that you have elected, joining hands with each other and in partnership with you in order to foster friendship and make a difference in the UC San Diego community.
Let's make the coming 2009-2010 year a memorable one for Oceanids!

Oceanids Opportunity Drawing
"Serene Bamboo"
"Amish/MennoniteQuilt " donated by Greet Hosteler
Tickets are now available for our Opportunity Drawing, "Serene Bamboo", a 80" x 80" quilt made of cotton batiks made by Oceanids member, Mary Woo. Additionally, Greet Hosteler, a member of Oceanids, has generously donated a quilt to add to our Opportunity Drawing. Now participants will have a second chance of winning a quilt. The quilt is 98 x 88 inches and was made by Amish or Mennonite ladies in the midwest.
Proceeds of the drawing will benefit the Oceanids General Projects Fund. The drawing for both quilts will be held at the Oceanids Holiday Party, December 5, 2009. Tickets are $5 each or six for $25. Our favorite 2 for 1 coupon book is back again! Coupons for restaurants include The Cottage, Jeff's Burgers, Roppongi, China Chef, Cafe Lavande, Bistro Pazzo, Thai Pan Cuisine, to name just a few, as well as 2 for 1 coupons for coffee, yogurt, ice cream, and service and merchandise.
