• Title - World Cinema
• Author - Bordwell, David
• Keyword - Natural language search in the: title, subject, and content notes. If you do not have a particular item in mind, use keyword  to get started.  example = John Woo, Silent Films, pre-cinema, World War II,  propaganda...etc. If you find an item by keyword, look at it's subject headings for further a more focused search.
• Subject (LC subject headings)  Can be tricky they are not "natural language". There is a LCSH theasurus that contains all subject headings, Ask at the SSHL Reference Desk. Here are some examples below;

            Combine subject headings;

                  Women in the motion pictures -- History and Criticism
                   Religion in motion pictures -- Plots, themes
                   Motion Pictures -- Ireland
                   Homosexuality in motion pictures -- Spain

            Examples of genre and thematic terms used as subjects

                    Gangster films -- History and Criticism
                    Detective and Mystery films -- History and Criticism
                    Western films - - Plots, themes

If UCSD does not have the book try;

• Circuit (CSUSM, SDSU, USD) You can try Circuit directly from Roger.
• Inter-Library Loan  You can ILL a book by using the REQUEST feature.

• Melvyl ( books, outside UCSD, but w/in UC system )- use same searches you would in Roger - (example - silent films -- criticism and history)
• WCAT (books outside UC system) - select this dtabase from : Search one of UC licensed databases.

                   Film journals indexed: Cineaste, Cinema Journal (full text 1962--), Film

Readers Guide To Periodical Literature

               Coverage: 1900 - present.

                   Lists articles on specific films and film subjects in monthly supplements that
                   are cumulated quarterly and annually. Look for reviews under the heading
                   "Motion Picture Reviews." See the subheading "Single works," with a
                   "see" reference from the title of the film. Reviews are also indexed under the
                   name of the director.
