Announcements:

• A 793 field (e.g., CDL licensed databases) will be used in lieu of a 590 note (CDL licensed database) in records for electronic integrating resources. Stacy wished to think about the ramifications of this further. [UPDATE: Stacy is okay with this.]
• We will keep using the SFX number in the 035 field for now. CalDocs are not included in this.
• It is being proposed that WorldCat.Local use unique holdings symbols for the RLFs. It is also being proposed that each campus have a unique SCP symbol. It is hoped that OCLC holdings can be set via the holdings in the 920 fields.
• Gale has changed their URL practice so that they can assign ranges of IP addresses to the LocID in the URL for each title. This will enable SCP to use one URL in a record (instead of ten) and will affect records in databases such as the Tier One Eighteenth Century Online (ECCO) and the Tier Two Making of the Modern World (MOME).
• Stacy said that III has an index glitch with the 245 field which has resulted in some missing titles in the title index. Please report any missing titles to her.
• Stacy reminded us that we should be vigilant about including the activity code ("a" or "i") in the checkin records for online journals.

 
Discussion:

1) 856 $z package name, how specific should it be?

Currently, with the exception of the 856 subfield "z" for LION, Publisher's Web site (used for open access and some miscellaneous subscription journals), and EBSCO, every other subfield "z" is unique just as its corollary package name in the 793 field. As we would like to place more emphasis on including the platform in the 856 "z" subfield, the question has arisen about whether the information in this field should continue to be unique or whether just the platform name would be sufficient. In order to keep it unique we could combine the package name and the platform. No decision was made at this meeting though the majority supported being more specific. [Action: Becky will provide background and examples from the E-Resources Tracking page for the next meeting]

2) SCIUG Fall 2007 Report :

•  The Fall Southern California IUG meeting was held at Soka University in Aliso Viejo, California, one of the newest universities in this country. It was founded on Buddhist principles.

•  The highlights were a presentation about Encore and another presentation on the use of Regular Expressions in Create Lists.

•  Another program was on how to automate tasks using scripting. Since we use Macro Express here, this was not found to be as useful.
