Announcements:
• Phone interviews are being conducted for the SCP Chinese language cataloger position.
• The Chinese LA V position in the CJK Unit has been posted.
• Candidate presentations for Metadata Specialist Positions were conducted this week.
• Interviews have been concluded for the Serials Processing Specialist Position in Acquisitions.
• Ivy Anderson, CDL, will visit and meet with SCP and CDL Acquisitions on May 23-24.
• The TPOT editorial board has met and has suggested reframing TPOT. A proposed recommendation is that MSD will use TPOT as a brand name. Other points in question included the discussion of both the external and internal role of TPOT. In addition, all existing TPOT documentation will be evaluated to determine what needs to be retained versus what needs to be eliminated. Further discussion to be continued in this area of concern.
• A reminder for the SCFG recorder, in addition to taking minutes, please also prepare a summary that will be forwarded to the UC CONSER Funnel discussion group.
• A reminder for all, if you encounter access problems for CDL licensed resources please report them directly to the CDL Helpline (not to SCP or CDL Acquisitions). When referring CDL problems to the CDL Helpline, be sure to copy the bibliographer and all involved on the email or FootPrints ticket.CDL helpline phone: (510) 987-0555

Discussion:
1) CONSER Standard Record documentation review
Adolfo advised that he would schedule another meeting since most likely the group would need more time to review the entire document. The group discussed the CONSER Standard Record Draft 5/11/07 version and made recommendations to the Cataloging Committee for UCSD adoption of the CONSER Standard Record.
Pages 1 through 6 of the CONSER standard document were reviewed and discussed, comments and observations were made for the following pages:
• Pages 1 through 3 – ok, no comments.
• Page 4 "General Principles": comments as follows:
- For the 2nd bullet, observation that more minimal level records (encoding level 7) may start showing up in the CONSER database but be aware that these are not CONSER standard records.
- For the 3rd bullet, note that authority records are required for all headings on CONSER standard records. If there is not an authority record in the national authority file and you decide that you will not be creating one, then code the record "msc." Because of the requirement for authority records, we may see more msc coded CONSER records and we may need to create more MSC records.
- For 5th bullet, reminder that the CONSER standard record is a floor not a ceiling.
- For the 6th bullet, comment that SCFG agreed to adopt the CONSER standard record guidelines for not using standard abbreviations and capitalization in designation and note fields, despite differing opinions.
- For 7th bullet, observation that this is very crucial. Catalogers are responsible for maintaining the required elements, but as a general rule, do not edit elements that are not incorrect.
• Page 5 – ok, no comments.
• Page 6 comments on Table:Despite a lack of consensus on the issue of "distinguishing" uniform titles" (Are distinguishing titles useful or not? How do we feel locally and what circumstances do we want? Are distinguishing titles necessary in all circumstances? Searching on OCLC will be more difficult, etc.), SCFG agreed to present four options to the Cataloging Committee:
1. Implement CONSER standard guidelines as written
2. Implement CONSER standard guidelines as written for OCLC records, do not implement locally if there is a title conflict in Melyvl.
3. Implement CONSER standard guidelines as written for OCLC records, do not implement locally.
4. Do not implement CONSER standard guidelines at all.
2) New Roger Scopes:
Adolfo shared that at the previous RISC meeting it was decided that the "ALL but slides" scope would be eliminated and replaced by a "Books" scope in Roger. The new default on Roger will be "All" when the new scopes are in place. The newly redefined BCODE2 will be used to get the materials into the Book scope and will have BCODE2=b.
Addendum: CONSER Standard Record Meeting, May 18, 1007
SCFG members met to continue review of CONSER standard record documentation and found no issues or concerns with the remaining guidelines.
Next meeting:
