Announcements:

• Renee: Sage Portal headings are not in sync with the actual headings appearing on e-journal bibliographic records and the Sage Ejournals Subjects A-Z list. Catalogers need an updated list of headings that bibliographers have added, changed, or deleted. Marilu Vallejo has addressed our concerns with the Library Website Committee.
• Margaret: Adolfo and Margaret will serve as reviewers of the CONSER maintenance work done by another UC campus starting with UC Davis. They will work out the details in a conference call next week with UCLA serials catalogers.
• Stacy: The Serials/Electronic Resources Division in Acquisitions has two unfilled staff positions. Interviewing will begin soon to replace the LAIV Electronic Resource Specialist.
• Adolfo: CDL has approved a position for a Chinese language cataloger. A draft job description has been sent to Shi and Linda.
• SFX OpenURL syntax cleanup: Renee will fix PID server. Ryan will batch change UCSD and SCP bibliographic records.
• Integrating resource (IR) record cleanup. There are problems with records sent to the Melvyl catalog. Karen Peters is working with III to fix. Ryan will convert existing Millenium IR records. SCP records will be redistributed. OCLC is planning to fix IR records in its database. For current cataloging, we can use new IR format.
• Draft Rush Cataloging Policy document. (See Sept. 14 email from Linda). Comments and suggestions are welcome. Send to your unit head before Sept. 27.
  

Discussion:

1. Review of document: Deleting Electronic Resource Records from Millennium and Melvyl (Renee)

The group came up with the following suggestions:

• Section I.
  Indicate that the document covers situations in which we remove access but do not delete bibliographic records.
  
• If removing access from a CDL record with multiple 856s, specify the package name in the 599 note.
  
• Section II.
  In addition to the five types of URLS, also add ARKs and OCLC Digital Archive links.
  

2. Review of document: California Documents and the OCLC Digital Archive (Becky)

Changes are being made to California document (primarily monographic) records on OCLC. The California State Library is adding OCLC Digital Archive (DA) persistent permanent links in the 856 field.

In general, the group endorsed using the DA link instead of BibPURLs because it would save us time and still provide reliable access. However, we would prefer to use BibPURLs if there are multiple DA links used on a multipart item and we could replace them with one BibPURL pointing to a summary page. Also, if both HTML and PDF formats are available, we would prefer to use one BibPURL to point to a summary page listing both formats. If there is no summary page, we would create two BibPURLs, one for each format, but also retain the DA link in the OCLC and Millenium records.

Becky will also discuss this topic with the UC government information librarians (GILS) group and the Shared Cataloging Advisory Committee (SCP AC).
