Discussion:

1. UC CONSER Funnel update (Margaret)

•  Adolfo reported on the conference called with UCLA catalogers Valerie and Melissa. The CONSER funnel serial list server has afforded the opportunity for cooperation and learning from each other for the UC campuses.

•  Margaret has now been officially released from CONSER review. The remaining catalogers will continue to submit their draft authenticated records to Margaret. Margaret will review and provide feedback. On a case-by-case basis, she will release the catalogers from review.

2.  LC Series

In light of the ongoing discussions regarding the Library of Congress's decision on series, to discontinue control for series in bibliographic records, Adolfo shared with the group that he supports this decision. Information exchanged on CONSER list regarding this topic indicates that there is a low number of serial titles that contain series. The Library of Congress' series treatment decision should not be detrimental for serials catalogers; therefore, it is acceptable to follow LC practice as it stands.

3. ISSN Portal subscription

Adolfo and Margaret provided information on the ISSN Portal and distributed an e-mail message on behalf of Becky which provides background information in support of acquiring a subscription to the ISSN Portal. The discussion centered on the benefits that a subscription to the ISSN Portal could afford. For example, the "UC Funnel is a good justification" and the ISSN Portal would be a good "authoritative source to determine accuracy of the ISSN." Other valuable benefits include, "the increasing importance of ISSN in the bib record for SFX and Verde" as well as autonomy. Adolfo will present the group's support for a subscription to Linda. In addition, it will also need to be determined if this could be a CDL subscription purchase.

4. 7XX linking fields display

Adolfo discussed the need to form a group to look at the 7XX linking fields display. The problem appears to be that PAC is not paying attention to the indicator values. Adolfo will bring this to CatCom with a goal to then form a subgroup to look into this issue.

5. Other

Stacy briefly reported on her attendance to the ELUNA (Ex Libris Users of North America) conference held at Knoxville on June 5-8, 2006. Stacy met with several CDL staff members and they had the opportunity to discuss various issues. As per Ex Libris, the Verde 2.0 beta version will be available for implementation early next week. At a later time she will give a more thorough reported.

Adolfo reported that July 1 is the official target date for beginning the transition from PIDs to SFX OpenURLs. CDL wants to move away from the PIDs. Adolfo will meet with Tony and others to determine whether or not UCSD should treat links to its online resources in the same way.
