Serials Cataloging Functional Group meeting minutes
April 14, 2006
Library Training Room
Recorder: Ryan Finnerty
Present: Margaret Christean, Ryan Finnerty (recorder), Kate Garvey-Clasby, Arvid Nelsen, Virginia Pulido-Casa, Nobuko Smith, Adolfo Tarango (chair)
Announcements:
- BML would like frequently revised editions with online access cataloged as serials. Kate will look through Access Medicine and MDConsult to see what can be recataloged.
Discussion:
1. Standardizing language in 530 field (Ryan)
Ryan is finding variant practice when multiple formats exist, e.g.,:
530 Also issued online, on CD-ROM, and microform
vs.
530 Also issued online
530 Also issued on CD-ROM and microform
The group decided that the single 530 statement should be how we record other forms of access.
2. Serials accompanied by CD-ROMs/DVD-ROMs update (Virginia)
- Virginia is doing all the accompanying CD-ROMs to see what issues arise.
- A "With CD-ROM" note is being added to the checkin box.
- Olga will take superceded reference volumes to DBM for item record creation.
- Existing checkin records for CD-ROMs will be deleted during the reunification project when the CDs are put with the print volumes. If the CDs are to remain shelved separately, then the checkin records will stay.
- Ryan will ask Shirley if the licensing stickers need to be put on stand-alone CD-ROMs, DVDs, videos, etc.
3. CONSER review update (Margaret)
- UCLA is being quite thorough in their review.
- Margaret is compiling a list of things we have learned from our review. She will bring these to a future meeting.
- PCC officially approved the UC CONSER funnel. Davis, Irvine, and Berkeley are the next campuses to be trained.
