Discussion:

1. Standardizing language in 599s. This is a reminder to use the wording in this document for SCP records. A small change was made in that we will use the statement "Added access for [package]" instead of "Added [package] access" in update 599s.

2. Document review: Composite record cataloging (cataloging remote access electronic serials using the print record version)

As a result of the extensive discussion at the last meeting, there was an updated chart for "Multiple Formats for Serials." There was also discussion of a new section on supplements. The following goals were stated in regards to supplements. For prospective supplements, catalogers should follow guidelines given in the CONSER Cataloging Manual (CCM 17.4). Retrospective titles will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. This means that there may be variation in the UCSD and SCP records.

007 field. A change in practice was discussed. We will no longer enhance print OCLC records with electronic 007 fields, even though we will continue to add them locally (and for SCP).

050 field. When adding LC classification numbers to records (and we add them consistently, except for some vendor record sets), please use 050 14. This is a change from the past when we used to use a 090 instead. However, if the call number already exists as a 090 in the record, do not change the field tag. LC classification or call numbers are not required for local, state, and federal government documents, however, do not delete if present. Exception: Assign LC classification numbers for local and federal documents cataloged for SCP.

086 field. Serials that are federal documents and have electronic access other than a GPO PURL should have LC classification numbers.

3. New serials. Stacy presented a proposal by Donal O'Sullivan and Mary Evans for changing the way serial IPS numbers are assigned. The IPS numbers will be restructured so that each Acquisitions staff member will be responsible for assigning their own IPS numbers incorporating the initial of their first name. An example is: IPS 2006-D [number] for serials initiating from Donal O'Sullivan. The proposal was approved by SCFG. Stacy will be presenting it to the other branches for implementation.
